Writing is a phenomenon of transforming thoughts and feelings into words. Writings can be of different forms. People write novels, stories and even poems to depict the real or imaginary world. Other forms of writings like articles, news, etc. are intended to enlighten or inform people. There may be several other writing forms as well but here I will converge to article writing.
People may write articles for several reasons. Writing may be a passion for some and for some others it might be a profession. Some might write to accelerate the needles of their watches; some to fight against the insomnia; some might write for self-satisfaction while some write just to show that they can write. Professional writers write to earn a living. General people write to avoid the fallouts of their overwhelming emotions. The cause of writing is subjective. I write for people; to make them know what I know.
The objective might differ but the impact should coincide. Whenever an article is intended to be published, it should be able to consider the questions like, “Will they understand it? Will it add something to their pre-existing ideas? Is it able to answer the related controversies?” and many more. The ubiquitous perception about writing is that it should be incomprehensible by general people; only the literary figures should be able to analyze a good piece of writing. This is totally wrong ideology. If writing is to be published in the forms of books or articles, it should be intended for the generals, not the literary ideals. A piece of writing becomes futile if people can gain nothing from it. That just becomes a huge collection of words rather than an article. In this context, I remember a TV program that invited a writer who had animosity to Chetan Bhagat’s writing and public recognition towards him. She claimed that he was not a good writer. Her only point to advocate this was that his writings were not too perplexing; everyone could read and understand them. I guess she was one of the greatest idiots I have ever seen in my life (at least for her age). However, Chetan succeeded to convince her at the end of the show. She brought me the flashback of my thoughts several years back when I used to conceive writing her way. I felt that writing should be enormously flowery and obscuring to be understood in a single reading. But now, I behold it contrastingly. Every thought in writing should be visible from outside.
To write is to give; an article becomes fruitless if the reader completes it with no gain. Words have power to change the world by changing the minds. The minds can be changed through ideologies and philosophies. These ideologies and philosophies can supplement people’s brains only when they can be understood. Such ideological creations and writings thus should be transparent enough to be seen through. Writing should be as clear as pure water. Article writing is not diary making indeed.
