The word ‘student’ defines itself. It refers to that person who is eager and thirsty to study and gain knowledge from his heart, mind and soul. But, its meaning and significance get questioned when the word ‘politics’ is appended to it. This makes students leave apart ‘studies’ and get involved in so called political activities. These days, ‘student politics’ has spread in many colleges like a wildfire. Some politicians may support this saying that politics is an essential part of study. If this was the fact then the children in Nursery class would never have learnt A, B, C, D… because they are never taught about politics. I want to ask all the great political leaders of the nation, “Is politics really necessary in the process of gaining knowledge?” The answer is obvious and apparent to everyone including the national level politicians. When will we realize that we have been pushing the students’ identity into stake by encouraging them in politics?
